‘SAP offers a lot of starting points for more sustainable operations'

SAP sustainability transformation expert Linda Naber helps companies transform to more sustainable operations and new business models. She guides clients to the future with penetrating questions, a soft hand and the latest technologies.

‘SAP offers a lot of starting points for more sustainable operations, and it’s an important motivator behind the implementation of new business models. The software can provide insight into the company’s CO2 emissions, for example, but it can also help make smarter decisions to prevent CO2 emissions in the first place. My job is to bring the latest innovations of SAP and related software to our clients’ attention.’

Managing growth

‘A lot of companies treat SAP like an attic used for storage. At a certain point, the space for SAP applications is filled to bursting, and needs to be cleaned up. As an SAP sustainability transformation expert, I can help companies with that. But for the future, it’s even better to guide that unbridled growth, so I work with companies to look at the bigger picture too.’

Traceability

‘The fun thing about this work is that every client has their own needs and opportunities. For example, we’re helping a client in the agri sector use SAP to make raw material flows traceable. The feed producer also makes a lot of organic feed, and works to meet the needs of sustainable farmers. The farmer can choose every detail of the feed: from extra proteins to antibiotics. I help organise the process so that the raw material flows are traceable – which is required by regulations and certifications – and how we can best use SAP to achieve that.’

Seeing opportunities

‘Technologies like machine learning and the cloud make this a stressful time for a lot of companies. They wonder: what can I do with that? And if I’m not doing anything, does that mean I’m missing the boat? I help them to see the opportunities: how they can use new technologies to cut costs and work more safely. For example, machine learning can make offshore wind park maintenance safer and less expensive. Technicians are only sent out when it’s absolutely necessary. I also point out the technology’s limitations to companies.’

Challenging clients

‘You need to be fearless to do this work. As a business transformation expert, you have to ask companies tough questions, like: what do you want to achieve in the future? How can you adjust your business model? Do you only want to change your operational processes, or are you willing to look a bit further? In other words: do you just want to clean up the attic, or are you willing to take on the whole house? To do that, I call on the assistance of colleagues from other departments, like Business Analysis and Insights & Data.’

Making connections

‘In this role, I have plenty of freedom to develop myself and communicate my vision. I’m relatively young for someone in this position. People noticed my passion for sustainability and how I motivated colleagues to make it their passion as well. My image of my future at Capgemini isn’t fully formed yet. What motivates me most is finding meaning in my work. So Capgemini’s purpose, “Unleashing human energy through technology for an inclusive and sustainable future”, is pretty much my purpose too!’
